Service to Society
Barbara Mills, Beta Beta: It has been said that without the leadership, talents, and organization of this member, Beta Beta would not be the successful chapter that it is today. She has served as chapter secretary, treasurer, vice president, and president. She has attended four International Conventions and Conferences. She has served on almost all of Beta Beta's committees. Her direction and organization skills have been essential to Beta Beta's Spring Tea, Lasagna Dinner, and November Auction. She plays a huge part in the success of Beta Beta's fundraisers. Barbara epitomizes DKG cooperation and sisterhood. She knows everyone in the chapter, and everyone knows her. Beta Beta Chapter is grateful to Barbara Mills for her leadership, friendship, and commitment to the goals of DKG. Oregon State Organization is happy to recognize Barbara Mills with the Service to Society Award. |
Service to Community
Pam Boston, Omega: This Omega member has been a woman-of-all-trades in the solid support of Episcopal churches and their Sunday school programs in both Medford and Grants Pass. She has served as Director of Christian Education, has written curriculum, trained new teachers, and taught preschool. For five years, she visited inmates and volunteered at the Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility. She is an advocate for developmentally disabled and delayed people. She volunteered and facilitated a weekly bowling league for developmentally delayed folks. She has been a board member for ARC of Josephine County and was a board member for Southern Oregon Aspire – supporting the developmentally delayed adult population with securing housing and jobs. She volunteers with, plans, and coordinates Special Olympics in Josephine County. She is generous and giving of her time and talents to their 180 athletes and their families. Omega Chapter and Oregon State Organization are proud of Pam Boston and happy to recognize her with the Service to Community Award. |

Service to Society
Vickie Jackson has been a member of DKG for 35 years. She has taken on the leadership role as chapter president in two Oregon chapters, Iota and Sigma. She has learned the financial ins and outs of her chapters and of the Oregon State Organization. After serving on the state's finance committee for more than ten years, she was appointed State Treasurer. Her Society knowledge was helpful in the creation of the state's Expansion Committee. She did the necessary leg work to form our Alpha Rho Foundation and now spearheads the ARF Board, maintains its finances, and keeps its board members focused and on track. She is a selfless giver of her time and talents. Oregon State Organization is pleased to present the Service to the Society Award to Vickie Jackson. |
Service to Education
Kate Kelleher began her teaching career in New York, but we are grateful that she chose to relocate to Oregon. She was a teacher and school counselor until her retirement. She has been a DKG member for 21 years. While working, she created a school guidance and counseling program for K-12, a first for her district. She facilitated Love and Logic Parenting Classes and trained the staff so they could become a Love and Logic School. Staff and parents were excited about the positive changes that they witnessed between students, parents, and staff as the school climate became more inclusive and accepting. After retiring, she started her own facilitating business, continuing to train parents and educators with the techniques from Love and Logic. She is passionate about issues that support women, children, and educators. She demonstrated educational leadership, innovation, and energy throughout her professional career and into retirement. Oregon State Organization is proud to award the Service to Education award to Kate Kelleher. |
Service to Community
Bonita Fillmore is an active member of Alpha Chapter, having served multiple terms as vice president and president. At the state level, Bonita has been on many committees and as Administrative Secretary and as State Vice President. Bonita also enjoys being involved with family, friends and her community. She was born and raised in Klamath County where she has gained a wealth of friends and is active in many activities there. She belongs to Catholic Daughters, and is involved in her local church, Sacred Heart, where she has served for 12 years as vice president and president of their Pastoral Council. She also has taught in their Sunday school program and assisted with their youth groups. Bonita has been an active member of the NEA and OEA, serving at the local level as secretary, vice president, and president. She has been a board member on OEA's Political Action Committee, for 6 years. She has been a member of the Czech Lodge for 70 years and has served on their Board of Directors. She is a dedicated member of her community and is always willing to use her talents to make a positive difference. Service to Society
Jill Snyder, Alpha Epsilon/2 in Salem, is a very active member of DKG. She has served at the chapter level in many offices, including serving as co-president for two biennia. She started as Chapter Treasurer in 2010 and continues today. She participates in planning programs, making our chapter basket(s) for State Conventions / Conferences and leading virtual game nights.
At the state level, Jill served as Administrative Secretary for four state presidents: Bridget Honan, Alice Reichle-Hartness, Kathy Martell, and Dr. Cindy Ryan. Because of her expertise in math and computer skills, she was able to accomplish all her duties, which were a lot, while still teaching and raising a family.
Jill has attended many International Conventions and Conferences. In 2009, the International Conference was in Portland, Oregon. Jill and another chapter member were responsible for the Hospitality Room. In 100-degree weather, they were able to make the Hospitality Room the place to be throughout the conference. That meant a lot of pre-planning and late-night trips to the store for breakfast items the next day.
Jill has endless energy and talents she shares with DKG and deserves the Service to Society Award.

She has been involved with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts for 10 years and with 4-H for 25 years. She has served on Union County's Fair Board for 20 years, during 3 of which she was the board president. She was awarded the Meritorious Service Award 4 years in a row as well as earning the Ackerman Service Award.

Dr. Cindy Ryan, Alpha Epsilon/5 in Salem, is a past Oregon State President and is currently a Professor of Early Childhood & Special Education at Western Oregon University. Cindy’s Service to Education is unique as she trains teachers and is working with children from birth through university.
As a professor, Cindy is collaborating to develop a state-wide Center for Early Childhood that focuses on justice, equity, and inclusion. Topics she addresses are ableism, gender equity, advancing race, equity, and social justice in early childhood. She is on a state leadership team on early childhood inclusion and is both a published author and has designed online workshops. Cindy organized an exchange at WOU with students from China in 2017. Since 2014, she has been director of the Early Childhood Inclusion Summer Institute at WOU and created a bridge program for transferring community college students at WOU. She works with the Marion Polk Early Learning Hub, the Northwest Down Syndrome Association, was on the Chemeketa Community College Early Childhood advisory board, serves on the Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education Higher Education Consortium, and more. Dr. Ryan is active in multiple councils and professional organizations.

Service to Society
Priscilla Ing (Lambda Chapter) Priscilla Ing has been active in the society since she became a member 19 years ago. She works tirelessly on chapter projects, has served on chapter committees, chairing 2 of them, and has been Lambda's Co-president for the past 3 bienniums. At the state level, Priscilla has become one of our “go-to” leaders. She has organized panels and events for conferences and conventions. She has been a District Coordinator and chair of the State Awards Committee for 3 bienniums. Priscilla has been serving on the board for The Alpha Rho Foundation since 2020. She has been described as a planner, organizer, and quiet leader. She is a master at encouraging, mentoring, and involving others. Oregon State Organization is proud to recognize Priscilla Ing and thank her for her service to the society. |
Service to Community
Dana Murphy (Beta Beta Chapter) Dana Murphy has served DKG at the chapter and state levels; she is currently contributing at the international level with the U.S. Forum. She is a member of Tigard's Community Response Team and also volunteers with the Tigard Rotary Club in various service projects. She has prepared and served meals for the past 6 years at Just Compassion Resource Center in Tigard. Dana has volunteered to lead community workshops and discussion groups regarding topics on Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Understanding Poverty. For the past 8 years, she has served on the Leadership Team and volunteered in many capacities at the Bethlehem House of Bread food pantry and center in Metzger. Bertha Haas (Psi Chapter) Since establishing the Huruma School for special needs children in Tanzania, in 2004, Bertha Haas has worked tirelessly to raise money for the school's operations, supplies, and improvements. Her programs have helped the students to grow and to become contributors to their society. Bertha has raised the Tanzania government's awareness of the worth of their special needs children. Bertha has dedicated her retirement years to the goals of the school she had founded. Oregon State Organization is proud to recognize Bertha Haas and thank her for her service to education. |

"Shirley Lomax, Alpha Epsilon Chapter, received a Cornetet Individual Professional Development Award from The DKG International Educational Foundation, to attend the National Council for Social Studies 98th Annual Conference in Detroit this December.
